The first 1 million tons/year CCUS plant in China has been successfully completed by CCCC

On January 29th, the 1 million tons/year CCUS plant of Qilu Petrochemical, which was constructed by our company, was successfully completed by China Communications Construction Corporation (CCCC). This is the first million ton CCUS project in the country and has significant implications for national energy security and the achievement of the "dual carbon" goals. Wang Yuliang, General Manager and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Qilu Petrochemical Company, presided over the ceremony of China Communications Construction Company. At the CCCC ceremony, the Engineering Department of Qilu Petrochemical Company introduced the project construction situation, and the general contracting unit Shandong Qilu Petrochemical Engineering Co., Ltd. and China Petrochemical Quality Supervision Station conducted a preliminary evaluation of the project quality. Then, the CCCC signing ceremony for the project was held. The first million ton CCUS project in China, the Qilu Petrochemical Shengli Oilfield CCUS project, covers three stages of carbon capture, utilization, and storage. It involves the construction of a carbon dioxide recovery and utilization device at Qilu Petrochemical to capture high concentrations of carbon dioxide from Qilu Petrochemical, transport it to Shengli Oilfield 80 kilometers away, and inject it underground. This project can reduce 1 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually, equivalent to nearly 600000 economy cars being parked for one year; At the same time, it has played a good role in improving the recovery rate of crude oil and increasing crude oil production. It is expected to achieve an increase of 2.965 million tons of oil in the next 15 years. This project adopts the medium pressure process and is a key project of Qilu Petrochemical Company. It uses the carbon dioxide tail gas from the coal gasification unit of Qilu Petrochemical Second Fertilizer Plant as raw material, and produces liquid carbon dioxide with a purity of over 99% through compression, liquefaction, and purification. Our company is well aware of the responsibility on our shoulders and the significance of the project. Especially on October 21, 2021, General Secretary Xi Jinping inspected the Qilu Petrochemical Shengli Oilfield CCUS project located in Shengli Oilfield in Dongying, which greatly inspired the builders. They strictly follow the requirements of the owners, take proactive measures, catch up with the construction progress, and proceed in an orderly manner according to the requirements. One is to increase management and construction personnel. The company has selected elite personnel from the project department in other cities and brought back 1.4 times more professional construction teams than normal to participate in the construction of this project, with a peak of 650 people. The second is to increase the depth of prefabrication, and achieve a welding volume of over 50% for structural welding and pipeline prefabrication in the company's prefabrication yard. The third is to fully promote the construction progress, ensuring that people wait for materials instead of waiting for them. As long as the equipment that arrives is lifted into place in a timely manner, the materials that arrive will be immediately constructed by someone. They strictly follow the construction control point plan, work overtime every night, and perform necessary tasks all night long, day and night. With the support and cooperation of the owner, general contractor, and supervisor, we truly achieved 5+2 and white+black. We overcame many unfavorable factors and successfully completed the construction task in just 96 days, presenting a great gift to the upcoming Spring Festival of the Year of the Tiger.
